The 8.15am Stoke-on-Trent - Birmingham New Street service is seen at Walsall on 17 June 1962, diverted via Rugeley and Walsall due to engineering works. The three-car BRC&W set includes M59155 and M50447 which were allocated to Cockshute at the time. Michael Mensing.
The arrival of the 11.02 to Nottingham at Leicester Central, April 29th 1967. Photo by Adam Jones. It is formed of a Derby Etches Park BRC&W DMU set. The DMCL is an early repaint into blue livery with a small yellow panel on the cab front. Bryan Jeyes.
A BRC&W DMU from Rugby arrives at Leicester Central on 29 April 1967. This was an Etches Park set, the centre car being 59155. Bryan Jeyes.
The 11.02 to Nottingham departs from Leicester Central on 29 April 1967. Photo by Adam Jones. It is formed of a three-car BRC&W DMU, two vehicles (the DMBS and centre car 59155) in green and the DMCL in blue. Bryan Jeyes.
The Class 104 on the right consists of M53594 M59155 M53514, seen at Buxton on 16/04/1984, with set BX485 on the left. Graeme Phillips Collection.
Stratford-upon-Avon used to be the destination for many special trains although the number of such workings has lessened in recent years. This picture shows one of these, the Poynton Parish Puffa, standing in the long-gone "cold store" sidings on 29 June 1985. This train was formed of class 108+104 combination (closest being BX496, presumably 51947/59155/52062, the other was BX480, presumably 53420/59152/53474) and, obviously enough I suppose, ran from Poynton in Cheshire, which incidentally is a very attractively decorated station, adorned with many enamel advertisements. Peter Tandy.
The passengers on the Poynton Parish Puffa were treated at Stratford-upon-Avon to a visit by the steam locomotive 46229 Duchess of Hamilton on 29 June 1985 although I don't recall taking any pictures of this. The return working of the steam special left a short while before the DMU (BX480, presumably 53474/59152/53420 and BX496, presumably 52062/59155/51947) went back to Cheshire and I photographed the latter from the window of the signal box. The industrial units in the background are the site of the erstwhile Stratford-upon-Avon shed and coaling stage. The entire backdrop is virtually unrecognisable nowadays and the signal box itself was demolished many years ago. Peter Tandy.
Buxton set BX496 - M51947 + 59155 + 52062 at Heaton Chapel station on a Manchester Piccadilly to Buxton service on 2nd July 1985. Walter Burt.
BX496 a 3 car Buxton allocated Derby built class 108 dmu with a class 104 trailer car, comprising of M52062 + M59155 + M51947, climbs the 1-60 bank up towards Norbury Hollow level crossing with a Manchester Piccadilly - Buxton working, 4th November 1985. Andrew J Crowther.
Buxton allocated Derby built 1960 class 108 dmu BX496 (M52062 + M59155 + M51947) is seen at rest on it's home depot, 23rd November 1985. Andrew J Crowther.
With Disley showing on the blind, Buxton based Derby class 108 dmu BX496 with it's BRC&W center car (M51947 + M59155 + M52062) slows for the Chapel-en-le-Frith stop on 23rd February 1986. The line between Disley and Hazel Grove was closed every Sunday around this time for the construction of the Hazel Grove Cord. Andrew J Crowther.
BX497, a 3 car Buxton allocated Derby built class 108 dmu with a class 104 center car (comprising M51950 + M59155 + M52062) leaves Hazel Grove with a Manchester Piccadilly - Buxton working on 17th May 1986. Andrew J Crowther.
Two Buxton sets working 1L03 Macclesfield-Llandudno passing Helsby, 7/6/86. Full formation was 53634, 59387, 51924, 52062, 59155, 51950. Anthony Griffiths.
Set BX371 stands at Buxton Station on 30/12/1988. Individual vehicle numbers were not noted at the time, but the leading car of this 3-car set is believed to be 53925 from the damage above the roller blind. The other cars are believed to be 59155 (centre) and 52039 (driving) Robert Hope.
Class 108/104 DMU set CH371 (presumably 52039 + 59155 + 53925) arrives into Ruabon station with a Wrexham service, presumably from Shrewsbury, in February 1989. Note the Car 2-4 Stop sign, the font suggests it's from British Railways days. Stuart Mackay Collection.
BX497 (M51950 presumable leads M59155 + M52062) has a 104 centre car in this view at Llandovery. Undated. Tom Clift.
CH371 (52039 and presumably 59155 + 53925) at Stockport on 3 May 1989. Sparegang.
A Class 108/104 three-car hybrid DMU, formed of Class 108 cars M53925 & M52039 with blue liveried Class 104 centre car (TSL) M59155 in the middle, was approaching signal PN491 at Irongate whilst running between Lostock Hall and Bamber Bridge with a Stockport to Carlisle 'Dalesrail' service on May 6th 1989. Martyn Hilbert.
CH371 (but with BX371 on a board in the window!) M53925 + M59155 + M52039 depart New Mills Newtown on the 08:22 Piccadlliy to Buxton, 13-5-89. Kevin Dowd.
After working a morning service into Manchester Piccadilly, Chester allocated Class 108/104 hybrid unit CH 371 formed of M53925+M59155+M52039, runs ECS towards Levenshulme on its way back to Stockport, for stabling .... 20th June 1989. Nigel Mack.
Class 108/104 DMU set CH371 (52039 + 59155 + 53925) stands at Bleanau Ffestiniog with the Hertfordshire Railtours 'Trawsfynydd Flyer' railtour on August 20, 1989 having just returned back down the freight only branch from Trawsfynydd. This was a photo stop on the return leg of charter 1T16 12.38 Chester-Trawsfynydd-Chester. The tour had started at Euston, loco hauled as far as Chester where passengers transferred to a 7-car DMU formation for the journey to Trawsfynydd. The change of trains was due to weight restrictions on the Conway Valley line and the freight branch to Trawsfynydd. Adrian Nicholls.
CH371 M52039 + M59155 + M53925 and CH257 M54485 + M51902 and CH256 M54231 + M51901 on 1T40, the 08:15 Stockport to Carlisle special charter at Stockport on 3-9-89. Kevin Dowd.
