E56100, at Peterborough on 3/8/76 apparently heading for Norwich. Signs in the cab windows proclaim it's set 45 (the other vehicle appears to be a Cravens). David Underwood adds: "'4 WED' in the windscreen reflects the method by which Norwich Depot advised when the unit was next due for maintenance at Norwich, i.e. the unit had to be placed on a diagram that finished at Norwich on that day." Hybrid DMU formed of a Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Co. built class 104 driving trailer E56186 and Cravens built Class 105/2 motor unit E51266 forming a Peterborough station to Nene Valley Railway shuttle service on 4th May 1981. Gordon Edgar.

Class 120 51575 is seen at Peterborough on 24.02.1987 after it's passenger carrying days were over and it had been taken over by the Parcels department. It is presumably paired with 53739, these are believed to be the only pair of this type to have the yellow/read stripes applied. Andy Cole.

E54447 + E53377 at Peterborough on a very cold 15th March 1986, with the man on the left still dressed in his 70s gear and dear old set 33 about to set sail for Cambridge. In a matter of weeks it would be transferred away to Ayr. Gerard Fletcher.

At Peterborough set 49 makes a healthy exhaust as it departs for Birmingham - you can almost hear that great Cravens cacophany. Taken on March 15th, 1986, by the end of July 1986, the number of Cravens sets in service at Norwich had reduced to just seven, the set seen here E51271 + E54463 along with six other sets went to Lincoln for a brief reprieve. The tail end of the 08.52 Cambridge - Birmingham with a Cambridge allocated Class 101 trailing, at Peterborough on March 15th, 1986. At this stage this may well have been locked out of use as was often the case with pairs of twin units. The gradual decline in status of the venerable Swindon built Class 120 cross-country dmus was a sad spectacle to witness. Quite probably the most comfortable classic dmus still in service in the 1980s, it was still a pleasure to travel in them. How sad that they should all perish in the scrapyard without a complete set being preserved. Originally a Western Region car as W50688, it was one of the large batch transferred to Derby Etches Park in May 1969 to improve the quality of service on the Birmingham to Norwich/Cambridge and Crewe - Derby - Lincoln routes. At this time they had micro buffets in the centre cars and after a brief period of service, these were soon disused. Renumbered from M50688 the previous month, M53688 is seen on May 7th 1983 along with M59274 & M53737 having arrived at Peterborough on the 14.08 stopping service from Birmingham and loading to work the 17.25 return to Leicester.
