An unidentified 2-car Class 101 set is seen stabled between duties in sidings beyond Fawcett Street Junction, south of Sunderland station, on 26/11/1983. It will form the next Sunderland-Newcastle service. The tracks at this location are now part of the Tyne & Wear Metro system extension to Sunderland. Graeme Phillips Collection.

A proper 4-car Class 108 formation waits to leave Sunderland with 0926 Sunderland-Newcastle (all stations), while the passengers await the 0910 Newcastle-Whitby (departed 0929 from Sunderland - a through service to Whitby during the Summer only, otherwise travelled as far as Middlesbrough only). Southbound from Sunderland. Two two-car Class 101 DMUs leave Sunderland with a service for (apparently) Middlesbrough. The photo is from either late 1979 or early 1980, probably the latter. The viewpoint for the photo is just off Burden Road, where the railway plunges into Sunderland South Tunnels. Another Met-Camm is just seen on the left. Tom Harper.
