A Class 100 DMU at Romiley - the station can be seen just past the junction- on the line to Woodley and Guide Bridge. Date unknown, likely early 1980s. Manchester is on the destination blind and the number of the DMBS looks like it could be M50351 - the temporary repair to the headcode is interesting! Stuart Mackay Collection.

Withdrawn Gloucester RC&W Class 143 Driving Trailer No E56316 at March TMD on January 18th 1981. It had been withdrawn from Norwich in April 1978 and disposal would be to Snailwell in April 1981. Rob Edwards.

A Class 100 DMU in Chester station, May 1981. This cab front (presumably 56105) appears to feature an unusual headlight arrangement, with the headcodes having been plated over and replaced by two central cut-outs - usually, replacement headlights were positioned above the buffers. With Tyseley in Birmingham and Manchester Longsight Depot having small allocations of the remaining class 100 DMU vehicles by 1981 it was somewhat surprising to see this hybrid set formed of a class 100 DMBS and a class 101 DMC or DTC coupled behind the more usual class 120 "Swindon cross country" set on the Central Wales line. The train is departing north from Llandrindod Wells with the 10.10 Swansea to Shrewsbury on Friday 29/05/81. Adrian Nicholls.

50351, a Gloucester class 100 DMBS easily identified by the partial number on the headstock, awaits it's next run to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Once a grand station Llandudno station has fallen on hard times, gradually taken apart as it's structure weakens. The centre drive that once had fine horses and carriages in it now plays host to a Rail Express parcels Commer van and a Hillman Avenger. It is 15.50, 04/07/1981. Geoff Dowling.

An unexpected discovery at Whitby on August 27th, 1981, was the Class 100 York Saloon (ADB975349 and ADB975539). It was parked in a bay platform that saw very little use. John Carter.

With "Handbrake Off" painted on the side, there seems little intention of using 50343 again when seen at Tyseley on 8/11/81. It had in fact been withdrawn in September that year. Chris Lings.

A cold night at Shirley station, pausing briefly is a very mixed unit on the 18.41 Birmingham Moor St - Stratford-upon-Avon, 8/12/1981. With Class 100 DMBS M51119 on the rear with set number TS414, the other two vehicles are presumably Class 101 59543 and Class 100 DMBS 51110. Geoff Dowling.
