The short spur leading off to the right which can just be seen through the bushes served a oil storage depot built in the 70's but its use was short lived. A well-worn looking Class 101 two-car DMU formed of cars M53231 & M54388 was stood at Bamber Bridge with the 16.27 Preston to Colne service on June 20th 1992. The set was allocated to Manchester Longsight Depot (101240) and this was the period when the remaining survivors of the first generation DMU fleet were kept in service due to the ongoing woes with the Class 142 Pacer fleet.
