Brand new Met-Camm sets in Dundee West shed, approximately July 1958. Despite this relatively late date the vehicle do not have whiskers. The vehicle closest to the camera, a DTC, has a Met-Camm banner in the centre bodyside window. George Bett.

The first land cruise by diesel train is seen preparing to leave Killin on Tuesday 29 July 1958. Formed of four twin sets, it had started in Glasgow Buchanan Street carrying about 500 passengers with the outward journey via Callander and returning via Crianlarich. British Railways.

A six-car Met-Camm formation emerges from Grosmont Tunnel with the 1.20pm Goathland-Whitby service on 1 August 1958. Both sets are former four-car sets reduced to three-cars with the removal of the TSL. E50182 leads - note the number on the lamp bracket under the driver which seems to read 39 - these were common on NER sets at the time - a diagram or set number? The very rear car is E50749. Closest is M50333, just under six months old, and 3E painted on the buffet beam which was the code of its home depot Monument Lane at the time. It's partners are presumably M59126 and M50315. A hive of activity in the Met-Camm works at Saltley with Class 101 vehicles in various states on construction. One can be identified on the left, DMBS E51221, listed as new to South Gosforth 16/10/58 which dates this to around late September 1958. Note the vehicles are glossed and lined before the windows are fitted. Three stages of roof construction can be seen, assembly, etch priming the alloy panels, and after applying red-oxide primer. Possibly a hand tinted image, it appeared in a Met-Camm publicity brochure. Metropolitan Cammell.
