Clayton West Station was opened 1st September 1879 by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway, it was closed by BR on 24th January 1983. In 1992 it was re-opened as part of the Kirlees Light Railway. The station lay at the end of a 3.5 mile Branch from Shepley Junction. In this picture from 5th June 1981 a Metro Cammell unit is about to work the 16.37 service to Huddersfield. Geoff Dowling.

A Metro-Cammell Class 101 has just terminated at Haltwhistle with the 15.08 from Newcastle on 08/06/1981. The scene is a delightful pocket of railway history. On the left the little station goods yard is in use and has a coal conveyer by a short siding. On the right all sidings are present as is a North Eastern water column. The station has the original foot bridge and a large signal box that also controlled the junction for the Alston branch. The foreground has a rather large corrugated iron shed. Geoff Dowling.

One of the Berwick to Newcastle stopping services pauses at Alnmouth station on 24th June 1981. I spent some time here in the 1960s before the station had been rebuilt, when it had a covered footbridge to buildings on the northbound side, a loop around the other edge of this island platform, and the remains of the engine shed on the far left serving the branch to Alnwick which turned off to the left in the middle distance.
