In 1983 I went on a tour of all the mainline railways of Wales. Towards the end of the trip we found ourselves on the borders at Shrewsbury, and I took the opportunity of capturing this view of Shrewsbury cathedral over the River Severn. Also in view is the impressive LNWR Seven Bridge Junction signal box and, stabled in the sidings, a number of DMU sets - Class 101 and Class 120. Chris McKee.
On 2nd July 1983 a Met Camm 3 car unit (326 or 328) approaches Swing Bridge East signal box with local service 2H73, the 1440 Edinburgh to Dunblane. The slightly ornate box, located between Falkirk Grahamston and Camelon, controlled a bridge (of the swing variety - but you'd guessed that) over the Forth and Clyde Canal. Bruce Galloway.

The driver will be braking on the sharply curved and steep descent as this early evening Sheffield-bound DMU from Huddersfield approaches Barnsley in the summer of 1983 (July 15). This deep cutting has since been substantially de-forested. Andrew Walker.
