Class 101 DTC 54055 at Norwich. This unit clearly shows it’s blanked top cab marker light position, and also has the LMR brake-pipe layout- this original ER allocated car was among four 2-car sets exchanged with the LMR during the early 1960s, the ER getting the four early Rolls-Royce power trailer sets. 54055 did not return to the ER until the late 1980s, later becoming part of 101662. A Plymouth Laira allocated Class 101 formed of cars 51530 & 51181 was departing from Starcross with the 16.45 Exmouth to Paignton service on May 31st 1989. The unit was one of several first generation sets drafted into the West Country following the transfer of the Class 142 'Skipper' fleet to the North the previous year. Martyn Hilbert.
