Seen calling at Oxford in 1988 is Metro Cammell Class 101 3-car unit L835, 51432 closest presumably with 59530 + 51498. Bob Belcher.
Class 101 Metro-Cammell diesel units had not, I think, been allocated to Reading until a batch was acquired to replaced Gloucester RC&W class 119 sets which had in turn replaced Southern DEMUs (the Tadpole units) at the beginning of the 1980s (although ex-Hastings DEMUs would also work on the Tonbridge - Redhill service). L835 and L841 at Ealing Broadway in 1993. This was taken when the Greenford shuttles had some of the the Final Classic DMU sets, as most services were provided by the class 165. These were both 2 car sets by this point. Aaron Oxford.
Despite the number of trains on the GWR from Paddington to Didcot in 1993 it was quite unusual to take a passing shot of two sets in the right place unless the one on the relief line was standing at a signal. On 7 May 1993 class 101 set L835 (presumably 51498 + 59530 + 51432) was working a Paddington to Oxford or Banbury train as it was passed by a down HST at full line speed in Moreton Cutting.
