Bathgate No More. Not quite as Metro Cammell 101 365 (53239 + 59053 + 53245) has brought invited guests into town as part of a publicity event for the forthcoming reopening of the Edinburgh - Bathgate line. Looking east as the Set stands in the goods yard used for motor car distribution traffic. The lifted Airdrie - Bathgate line is behind the track panels stacked to the far right. A hybrid cl.101/110 set, with 51180 leading 59701 and 53245 (the last being ex- ScR set 101 365), departs from Brough on the 17.11 to Hull on 18/4/90. This service was mainly for the benefit of homegoing workers from the adjacent BAe aircraft factory. Leonard Rogers.
A hybrid class 101/104 set standing at Stirling on 22/7/87. It is labelled as "101 366", though technically it should have been 104 366, since the class of the brake vehicle determined the class prefix in ScR set numbers. It will depart at 18.05 to Edinburgh. The nearest vehicle is 51528 and the TBS is 59215; though the furthest-away vehicle was not identified definitely, it is likely to be 51534. Leonard Rogers.
A 3-car DMU smokes through Princes St Gardens in August 1987 on an Edinburgh to Glasgow via Falkirk Grahamston stopping service. Class 101 power cars SC51528 and 51534 are sandwiching class 104 TBS 59215, originally part of a 4 car set and which was reallocated north from Neville Hill in 1982 and withdrawn at the end of 1987. Metro Cammell DMU (101 307) departs Glasgow Queen Street High Level Platform 4. The clocks suggest a working via Falkirk Grahamston for Waverley at xx.14 minutes past the hour (with thanks to comments from John McG). Note the Metro Cammell sitting in Platform 1 to the far left with Class 47 on the loco spur behind. Another Class 47 sits at the head of what is probably an Aberdeen train on Platform 7 to the far right. SC51803 displays the set number 101 430 when seen at Glasgow Central - probably sometime in August or September 1984, shortly after the vehicle's transfer to Ayr. The Class 107 centre car should be 59802. Andrew McConnell.
Adrossan Town station on 23 March 1986 just before electrification of the route was expected to commence. At the head of the line of Class 101/107 units is Metro-Cammell hybrid unit 101430 (comprising 51803 + 59802 + 52008) in Strathclyde PTE livery.
