DMS E53169 is seen in what was then Newcastle platform 11, with Brough on its destination blind, on 2/10/87. Below the driver's window can be seen the letters BG, the depot code for Hull Botanic Gardens, which at the time maintained a fleet of DMUs for East Yorkshire. In most cases, the top and bottom centre lights were smoothed away without a trace upon refurbishment, but this cab front exhibits the welded plates. Graeme Phillips Collection.
Although not seen, 53169 of C995 is still carrying a Tyne & Weir PTE motif on its bodyside showing its Heaton Traction origins, when seen at Cardiff Central in 1990. Mac Winfield.

This pair of power cars subsequently acquired Caledonian blue livery. On the right can be glimpsed 53315 at the head of set 874, waiting to leave on the 16.34 to Glenrothes. Not from round these here parts? Metro Cammell twin 101 692 awaits the signal at Dumbarton Central (Platform 3) and an eastbound path. It's not in passenger service and the exact working is not known. The DMS nearest the camera is probably 53170 with DMB 53253 behind. The livery is the blue iteration of the SPT schemes. Prior to Sprinterisation of the West Highland Lines, regular DMU passenger operation was not common round here - apart from railtours or when the OHLE was de-energised. This was classic Blue Train country! Undated negative but probably circa 1998. alicia hartman.
