Two three-car Class 101s in Inverkeithing station on 10 September 1992. Closest is set 101692 formed of 53170 + 59303 + 53253, the rear set is believed to be 101693 (51192 + 59302 + 53266). Stuart Mackay Collection.

101 692, with 53170 leading and 59303 visible behind, leaves Waverley station on 12/7/93, forming the 16.27 to Kirkcaldy. The third vehicle in the set was, of course, 53253. This pair of power cars subsequently acquired Caledonian blue livery. On the right can be glimpsed 53315 at the head of set 874, waiting to leave on the 16.34 to Glenrothes. This was during the relatively short period of a year or so when Haymarket was operating freshly-refurbished three-car class 101 sets nos.101 691-4. By the end of the year 101 692 would have lost its centre trailer and in Feb.'94 it was transferred to Corkerhill. Leonard Rogers.

Not from round these here parts? Metro Cammell twin 101 692 awaits the signal at Dumbarton Central (Platform 3) and an eastbound path. It's not in passenger service and the exact working is not known. The DMS nearest the camera is probably 53170 with DMB 53253 behind. The livery is the blue iteration of the SPT schemes. Prior to Sprinterisation of the West Highland Lines, regular DMU passenger operation was not common round here - apart from railtours or when the OHLE was de-energised. Passing at Pollokshaws. By 1999 time was running out for first generation DMUs in Scotland, with a handful of Met Camm power twin sets operating from Corkerhill depot on some Glasgow suburban services. Taken on 1st August that year, when these had only a few months to go before being replaced by Sprinters. 101692 (53170 + 53253) was repainted into a unique blue livery in 1996 and is seen at Pollokshaws West on a Glasgow Central to Barrhead service on 1st August 1999. Following withdrawal from Longsight, this set was preserved. Passing in the distance is 101688 (51431 + 51501) which was destroyed in a blaze near Mossend on 17th November of that year.
