Metro-Cammell Class 101 twin unit E56387 + E51229 at Newcastle on July 3rd 1981 in between arriving as the 17.48 from Middlesbrough and departing as the 19.35 to Sunderland. Class 101 cars E56388 + E50225 at Scotswood, Newcastle heading westbound with a service for Haltwhistle on 14/05/1982. This section of track was closed on 04/10/1982, from which time all Tyne Valley trains travelled over the former freight lines via Norwood Junction - maintenance costs of the Scotswood Bridge were a major deciding factor in the closure of this section. The railtour, organised by the Angus Railway Group, that ran from Perth to Fraserbugh, via Dundee & Aberdeen on 01-06-1974, also covered the Brechin and Aberdeen Waterloo Quay braches. I joined the train at Aberdeen, where I was a 1st year student at the time. The train was a class 101 power-trailer diesel multiple unit (56392 + 51457). Gordon Thomson.
