The feather on the signal is for the curve to join the East Coast Main line towards Newcastle, and the point work diverging to the left in the distance is the chord to the East Coast Main Line towards Morpeth." Metro-Cammell Class 101 twin unit E56387 + E51229 at Newcastle on July 3rd 1981 in between arriving as the 17.48 from Middlesbrough and departing as the 19.35 to Sunderland. The trailer's blue paint work seems to have suffered in the carriage wash while its partner is in refurbished condition. Gerard Fletcher.

Class 101 cars E56388 + E50225 at Scotswood, Newcastle heading westbound with a service for Haltwhistle on 14/05/1982. This section of track was closed on 04/10/1982, from which time all Tyne Valley trains travelled over the former freight lines via Norwood Junction - maintenance costs of the Scotswood Bridge were a major deciding factor in the closure of this section.
