With bunting out for the occasion DMU's 50400 + 56150, 56213 + 50625, 56161 + 50404 approach Cheddleton on 22nd June 1980. BR ran a series of 'Rail-Cruises' over the freight only Churnet Valley lines during the early 1980s - the line is now in the hands of the Churnet Valley Railway and sees use between Leekbrook and Kingsley. A Churnetrail special at Cheddleton on 22 June 1980. Formed of a Class 108 with a Class 103 on either end, the vehicles were 50404 + 56161 / 50625 + 56213 / 56150 + 50400. Stuart Mackay Collection.

M56156 at the front of an eight-car formation for the Machynlleth-Towyn section of a BSRS (Bristol Suburban Railway Society) Cambrian Special railtour at Machynlleth on 10 August 1980. The tour started in Bristol with loco-hauled stock, 47 185 took it to Shrewsbury then 25 056 + 25 327 on to Machynlleth. At Machynlleth passengers transferred to the DMU. Nicholas T Smith.

This Park Royal class 103 D.M.U. DTCL M56157 was withdrawn in November 1980 from Chester depot. By mid 1982 the windows and doors had been covered with plywood from the inside. Somewhere between those dates I photographed it at this unknown location. It was cut up in June 1984. Curly42.

The rear end of a twelve-car DMU on a Llandudno to Rochdale and Oldham holiday relief at Heyside sometime in 1981. The formation was, from this end, a two-car Class 103, two two-car Class 101s, a Class 100 DMBS / Class 108 DTC, and two two-car 108s. Richard Greenwood.

A tidy looking two-car Park Royal Class 103 DMU was coupled to a Class 108, stood at Crewe with a service to Chester on May 19th 1981. The leading car is Driving Trailer Composite Lavatory (DTCL) M56155, complete with its first class saloon with orange curtains. Martyn Hilbert.
