The last of the Newton Heath allocated 'White Stripe' with red buffer beam liveried class 104 BRC&W dmu's - DMCL M53524 - makes a smoky departure upon leaving what is now a totally unrecognizable Manchester Victoria with a service for Blackpool North. These units with a White Strip down the body side indicated that they had modified suspension for fast running on express services to Blackpool, which probably meant very little when i took this with the influx of class 150 'Sprinter' new builds. 18th May 1985 Andrew J Crowther.

A sad end for burnt out Newton Heath allocated Class 104 set 53467 + 53519 which was withdrawn in April 1985. DMCL 53519 is nearest the camera in the old steam shed sidings at Springs Branch in June 1985. The whole set was later covered in plastic sheeting, presumably due to asbestos contamination.
