Heading towards Sheffield we have just crossed the freight only Chapel Milton viaduct and are joining the Hope Valley route, under the watchful gaze of the two spotters on the bridge. Our class 108/104 'Merrymaker' is heading for the Flower Parade at Spalding and this freight only line was one of three that we traversed that day. This little freight only spur over Chapel Milton viaduct between Chinley South Junc and Chinley East Junc was closed on 27/2/1966 and lifted only to be restored to use again on 14/12/1980. 4th May 1985 Andrew J Crowther.

Interior detail - this is the cab bulkhead on a Class 104 on July 23, 1985. Of note is the traffolyte sign above the sliding door reading "English Cedar" to show what type of veneer was used - although it seems a solid colour with no grain to be seen, so has it now been painted? Also note the covered up vent on the ceiling. Jonathan Hazan.

17th September 1985

A two-car BRCW Class 104 DMU approaching Midge Hall with the 11.39 Preston to Ormskirk service on September 17th 1985. The disused former Up line is visible to the right of the 104. Taken out of use in 1983, the track remained in-situ for many years. The signal protecting the level crossing at Midge Hall had been removed from the overgrown Up platform, and 'planted' in the formation of the disused track. The former goods warehouse dominates the scene here, at what is still a rural location. The station at Midge Hall was closed in 1961. Martyn Hilbert.
