Hybrid DMU formed of a Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Co. built class 104 driving trailer E56186 and Cravens built Class 105/2 motor unit E51266 forming a Peterborough station to Nene Valley Railway shuttle service on 4th May 1981. Gordon Edgar.

A BRC&W three-car DMU (power cars M50491 and presumably M50439) enters Birmingham Snow Hill in April 1967. Tyseley set number 418 is in the cab window. The centre car is noted as M59148 which casts in doubt whether it or M59147 was transferred from Tyseley to Etches Park the previous month. Hugh Llewelyn.

Ayr Variety. Platform 11 at Glasgow Central High Level with motley six car DMU departing for the Ayrshire coast. An old note book suggests the leading BRCW Triple is M53473 DMBSL (White Stripe) + Sc59789 (107 TSL) + M53525 DMCL (White Stripe and yellow First Class cantrail stripe), as seen on a previous day at Central on 19/01/1984. The rear lash up is probably MC DMBS E53207 + BRCW DMC M53510 + DTCL E54088, previously seen at Ayr. Three manufacturers / vehicle types, all blue, blue with white stripe, blue - grey ... and 'first class'. Variety, indeed! BRCW Class 104 DMBS 53598 is the trailing power car in mixed Set 455 seen here leaving Prestwick station in August 1986. The wires are in place for the Ayrshire electrification which would go live the following month. The centre car is a Metro-Cammel vehicle (59090). Services restarted from Edinburgh to Bathgate in 1986 and used a variety of worn out DMUs shuttling to and from a new single platform terminus station built in the former goods yard. In August 1987 we see BRCW class 104 DMU 53464 still wearing its M prefix following its transfer from Newton Heath 6 months earlier. It is seen passing the erstwhile Haymarket Coal Yard on an Edinburgh to Bathgate working, running with blue / grey centre car 59168 and class 108 M52059. Murray Liston.
