A Class 104 DMU in Edinburgh Waverley station, June 1978. Although unlikely today, excursions using standard DMUs such as this were not uncommon in the 1970s. This Class 104 was working between Glasgow Queen Street and Whitley Bay. The E-prefix to the number indicates it is probably one of the Class 104s then allocated to South Gosforth (GF) depot for North Tyneside services. Graeme Phillips Collection.

Three car BRCW dmu sets were allocated to Norwich for the first time in late 1975. All except one came from Hull Botanic Gardens and were replacements for Metro-Cammell sets which had been gathered by Norwich from 1968 onwards. The Class 104 sets were in pretty poor nick, but here's one which has had some TLC at Doncaster Works. Photographed on April 25th 1980 whilst working the 13.36 Peterborough - Cambridge service, E50578 ended up being part of the last three car set at Norwich. Most of them left in 1980, but this one lasted until February 1981 when it went to Stratford. Refurbished Metro-Cammell triples were their replacements. The BRCW units were numbered 80 - 88 and the refurbished Cammells commenced with set 90. Gerard Fletcher.

Recently returned from Overhaul and yet to receive a Norwich MPD Set allocation number Class 104 DMCL E50583 rests on it's home depot ahead of Class 03 03103. By Autumn 1978 she was part of Set No.82 at Norwich until transferring to Leeds, Neville Hill MPD in mid 1980 from where she was withdrawn in May 1982. She would return to East Anglia however as she was scrapped at the Mayer Newman Yard in Snailwell during July 1983. Bob Woolnough.
