A former Eastern Region Cravens Class 105 Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) M50389, complete with a paraffin tail lamp, was stood in platform 3 at Preston station with a well-filled two-car Manchester Victoria to Blackpool North service on the evening of Friday August 24th 1979. Most of the local Cravens sets in the Preston area were power-twin units, but this set was a power-trailer, with Driving Trailer Composite Lavatory (DTCL) M56456 leading. Martyn Hilbert.

A set formed of a Class 105 power car in plain blue, a Met-Camm TS in refurbished livery, and a Class 101 DMBS in blue / grey livery, waits to leave North Berwick for Edinburgh Waverley on 10/9/1979. With the former Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway station at Blackburn as a backdrop, Cravens 105 two-car DMU with DMBS M50784 leading, was in the West facing bay platform with a service to Manchester Victoria, via Bolton on September 18th 1979. These distinctive power-twin units were associated with the ex LYR routes in Lancashire for nearly thirty years. Blackburn Station was the last of the large L&Y stations to remain intact with its overall roof and iron & glass canopies, all since replaced by modern structures in the name of progress. A Cravens Class 105 two-car DMU formed of cars, E50359 & E56126, was stood at North Woolwich before working back to Stratford Low-Level on October 21st 1979. The Dock Cranes visible in this view were at King George V and the Royal Albert Dock. The redeveloped area between these two former Docks is now the location for London City Airport. The line between Stratford Low-Level and North Woolwich closed in December 2006. Martyn Hilbert.
