The station, which opened in 1924, is situated on the 'Hertford Loop' which runs parallel with the GNR main line between Wood Green and Stevenage. On the right of the photo is the single track connection to Hertford Cowbridge (the original Hertford North station) and Hertford East. John Cosford.

A Cravens triple DMU on a local stopping service, although not stopping at Widmerpool where it is seen circa 1963/4. All facilities available for use, a typical station and goods yard. The long siding in front of the signal box was often used for storage of coaching stock. Slightly blurred as picture was taken on a Brownie 127. David Page.

A pair of Cravens 2-car units pass at Harpenden East in 1964. Looking at a timetable of the period, these are possibly the 6.25pm Welwyn Garden City to Dunstable and the 6.28pm Luton Bute Street to WGC which crossed at 6.40/6.41pm.
