21st June 1980
A scene which sums up the downfall of a one-time main line route, On Midsummers Day, June 21st 1980 a Cravens Class 105 Power-Twin (the Motor Brake Second noted as M50768), arrives at Croston with the 13.37 Ormskirk to Preston service. The station was still equipped with vintage LMS concrete lamps on the one remaining operational platform. The former main line was singled in the early 1970s, and the one-time Goods Yard became a Timber Yard. Martyn Hilbert.

12th July 1980
On 12th July 1980 the “Forth Valley Wanderer” railtour visited the Granton branch in Edinburgh, seen here approaching Trinity station, which was closed as far back as 1925 and remains open as a private house. The North British Railway fixed distant signal was in place here until the line here was dismantled in 1986. The DMU used was formed of two blue/grey Class 105 DMBSs and a 101 centre car, 51474 + 59047 + 51480. Murray Liston.
12th July 1980
On 12th July 1980 the “Forth Valley Wanderer” railtour visited the Granton branch in Edinburgh. This view shows the train approaching the tunnel under East Trinity Road, with Trinity Junction immediately afterwards. The original line to Scotland St, and thence by cable haulage through the tunnel to the current Waverley station, continues straight ahead. The line was taken up in the mid 1980s and now forms a footpath. Murray Liston.

The Edinburgh City Transport Welfare Association "The Forth Valley Wanderer" railtour is seen at Granton on 12th July 1980, taken on my Instamatic from the entrance to the oil terminal, looking towards the headshunt on the former Caledonian line to Princes St. The tour was formed of two blue and grey liveried Cravens class 105 DMUs 51474 and 51480, sandwiching a Met Camm centre car 59047. A Cravens diesel multiple unit prepares to depart for Windemere at a desolate Kendal station on the Windemere branch from Oxenholme to Windermere on 17th September 1980. The building is very neglected and the Up platform is abandoned. Pete LG99.

A Sheffield to Leeds train formed of a two-car Cravens (of Sheffield) dmu arrives at Barnsley station on October 8, 1980. The platforms here were staggered to allow for an overlap in case a southbound train overshot the signal protecting the level crossing. Jeremy Chapter.
