On July 9th 1981, the 10.58 Dunblane - Edinburgh dmu arrives at Falkirk Grahamston. This is my only picture of a Cravens car in blue/grey livery. 51479 is marshalled in a 3 car set with two Metro-Cammell vehicles, the rear one is SC50748 but I have no record of the centre car. The Cravens car was withdrawn in November 1981 and has already lost its destination blind. It is showing set number 375 which has later been prefixed with 105. It spent all its 22 years in service in Scotland. Gerard Fletcher.

A 105/101/105 DMU set in Haymarket depot on 28 October 1979. Closest is SC51480, a vehicle that spent its whole career in Scotland allocated to Kittybrewster, Leith Central, Hamilton and Haymarket. Within a few months it would become one of the very few 105s to carry blue and grey livery, and would be withdrawn in November 1981. The other two vehicles are presumably 59047 and 51474. At the west end of Haymarket depot on 15.3.81 sit two hybrid class 105 triples. On the left, freshly-outshopped from St Rollox in blue/grey and complete with ScR six-figure unit number (105 37x), is 51481/59567(cl.101)/51477, while further back, apparently on loan from Newton Heath, is 50782/59159(cl.104)/50789. See the comments in the caption to the photo of 55000 and others from the same occasion about the ScR's application of blue/grey to 105's. Notice too how the home-based unit contains two DMBS's : this was a result of the Region's policy in the 1970's of standardising on triples. Driving trailers from former two-car units of classes 101 and 105 were swapped with the Eastern Region for class 101 centre trailers and DMC's. However, this left the ScR with an excess of class 105 DMBS's which had to double up in triples for a while. Leonard Rogers.
