Last Day No.4. Cravens 105 373 triple takes the ‘Down Branch’ at Cart Junction on the returning 10:01 Kilmacolm - Glasgow Central service under darkening skies. An old notebook suggests this was DMBS E50384 + DMBS E51301 + DTSL E56464 (nearest camera). Reduced to a single lead, Cart Junction once served routes to Kilbarchan, Kilmacolm, Elderslie and Johnstone. The houses in the background are the outskirts of Linwood. An old notebook suggests this was DMBS E50384 + DMBS E51301 + DTSL E56464 (nearest to camera). An old notebook suggests this was DMBS E50384 + DMBS E51301 + DTSL E56464 (nearest camera). Sandholes Road crosses the railway in the background and Brookfield is to the left. E56464 at the head of a mash-up class 105 unit at Kilmacolm on 8 January 1983, the last day of services on the branch. (It has since been reopened as far as Paisley Canal.) The driving motor second (50384) at the far end also had an "E" prefix to its number but carried an "AY" (Ayr) allocation sticker. The centre car of the formation was 51301. These Cravens-built cars were delivered between 1956 and 1959. Note that station signage has been removed. Jeremy Chapter.

A scan of a water damaged print showing a Cravens twin set with DTC Sc56465 closest at Craigellachie, date unknown. The GNoSR footbridge has boards listing the destinations from the platform, the left side reads "Platform 2 for Elgin, Lossiemouth Inverness and the North". The DMU is in platform 1 and is likely on an Elgin - Keith Junction service. A third platform off to the left was for the Speyside branch, for several years operated by diesel railbuses to Aviemore. On 04/04/1980 a Class 105 (E56466 + E51283) arrives at Heworth, then a relatively new station which had opened to BR services on 05/11/1979. In the background, catenary masts for the Tyneside Metro system have yet to appear, although services started running to Heworth on 15/11/1981. Graeme Phillips Collection.
