From Strathclyde to Fife. Taken from what is now a tram track, we see a Strathclyde red liveried 3 car DMU accelerating away from Haymarket with a Fife service one evening in August 1987. This comprises most of set 107436 (presumably 51997 + 59784), but the rear car has been substituted with a Metro Cammell vehicle. Murray Liston.
The train now arriving at Platform 4...is for Glasgow Central via Shotts. Class 107 set 443 is seen arriving at Haymarket in August 1987. SC52004 is leading, SC59805 is the centre car, and normally SC52016 would be bringing up the rear, but we can just make out a Strathclyde orange and black livery on the last vehicle so presumably a temporary substitution has been made. Murray Liston.
Sunshine and Shadows at the west end of Edinburgh Waverley in August 1987. In the distance a family admire the Scotrail class 47 about to take them on an Aberdeen service, while next to us in the unique double sided platform 18 is a Trans Clyde liveried Derby class 107 waiting to leave on a service for Cardenden. Murray Liston.

Seeing the sunny side. Derby Class 107 DMU set 107431 (presumably 52035 visible) waits to leave Waverley's platform 18 in August 1987, the driver no doubt wishing for a bit of shade from the afternoon sun. Murray Liston.
A clean departure from Kingsknowe. Kingsknowe station in the western suburbs of Edinburgh closed to passengers in 1964, but after campaigning was reopened in 1971. Seen here in August 1987, a clean Derby "heavyweight" set 107434 (presumably 52011 + 59791 + 51994) restarts one of the Glasgow Central to Edinburgh "Shotts Stoppers" from here, next stop Slateford. Murray Liston.

Class 107 Pettycur Aug 1987. By this time it was a case of "anything goes". This class was never common on Fife Circle workings and definitely not in SPT orange livery which the leading car is wearing, but by then the corporate identity manual had more or less been abandoned. Closest appears to be 107443 / 52004. Alistair Ness.
Class 107 Slateford August 1987. A line on which these "Hamilton" Derbys were very much associated. Here a Glasgow Central to Edinburgh working sets off for Haymarket. Alistair Ness.

A scene almost unrecognisable nowadays.Taken from what is now a tram track, a Strathclyde red livered 3 car DMU accelerates away from Haymarket with a Fife service one evening in August 1987. This comprises most of set 107436, but the rear car has been substituted with a Metro Cammell vehicle in place of 52024. Bunyan’s coal lorry can be seen on the left, and the Distillery is still in operation on the right. Murray Liston.
