Class 107 Slateford Road May 1984. This was the view looking north from my fourth floor living room window overlooking the Haymarket to Slateford section of line as well as the Caledonian Brewery which is still open today and makes a lovely pint of Deuchars IPA. A class 107 d.m.u. formimg a Glasgow to Ardrossan Harbour or Largs train passes Stevenston No. 1 signal box in the immediate pre-electrification period - July 1985. This was an LMS built signal box, opened in June 1947, closed by British Rail in September 1986 upon completion of the Ayrshire electrification project. Falkland Yard, Ayr, July 1986. The goods yard was packed full of Class 107 units sidelined due to driving axle problems and Class 27s - presumably stored waiting their final trip to Vic Berry's yard in Leicester for scrapping. A Class 104 in Blue Grey livery also appears. Andrew McConnell.
