Doncaster South Yorkshire 1985: the old order on the East Coast Main Line at Doncaster station. We had just arrived from Thorne North on the Class 108 Hull-Sheffield diesel multiple unit standing at platform 3. Over in bay platform 6 is a Class 141 Pacer British Rail/Leyland railcar on a Metro-Train Leeds service. Introduced in 1984 these lightweight units were all withdrawn by 1997 and in 2001-2 many were exported to Iran. Pete LG99.
This formation - with at least nine vehicles - is seen at Stockport circa 1985 with 'Excursion' on the destination blind. M52050 is at the front as part of a three-car Class 108, followed by a three-car Class 104 and three other vehicles, the first two being 108s. Stuart Mackay Collection.

The approach to Bradford Forster Square station as seen from the front window of a dmu (almost certainly a Class 108) from Keighley in 1985. Not much was happening & by this time most of the station was derelict, the few remaining trains concentrated on the 2 westernmost platforms. A Class 108 is seen amongst a variety of vehicles in Derby Litchurch Lane Works. David Faircloth notes "the 'photo was taken from the "Long Bridge", this still crosses the works site, but has been closed for about 6 years. The land on which the vehicles stand is now outside the works, and is covered by an industrial estate (Citygate)." Ian Francis.

Permanent way work at the once 4 tracked Buxworth cutting, just south of New Mills South Junc on the Hope Valley line, sees 37079 (D6779) stationary on a ballast train, whilst a class 108 comes past wrong line with a local service to Sheffield. on today's railway this would mean Rail Replacement buses. 24th February 1985.
