A Manchester-bound diesel multiple unit arrives at Stoke railway station against the sun in March 1975. It is possible the DMU was running in place of EMUs due to the wires being switched off; in the foreground is a speed limit board which applies to the platform, off shot left, into which the dmu is headed. This is noted as the 13:10 to Alston, seen in Carlisle station on Saturday 1st May 1975 which was the last day of services on the Alston branch. It's formed of a three-car Class 108, 2-car 101 and another set of at least vehicles with a Met-Camm closest. Stuart Mackay Collection.

It is seen near the former Calverley & Rodley station on the Leeds to Shipley line with Leeds is displayed on the destination blind. By this date only five Class 108s had been refurbished, all allocated to Neville Hill, no more would be treated till April the following year. British Rail.

One of the early Class 108 refurbishments with the small headcode indicator in the cab window (displaying 1G45) forms the 17:12 Leeds-Morecambe service seen approaching Skipton on 23 June 1975. Only five Class 108 pairs had been refurbished by this date, all allocated to Neville Hill, and it would be almost a year before any more of the Class were treated. Michael Mensing.
