A battered 2-car class 108 DMU Derby Lightweight set stands in the austere surroundings of Colne station with the 12.42 to Preston on 22 August 1985. Once a twin platform station on the East Lancashire line linking the industrial towns of East Lancashire like Blackburn and Burnley with Skipton in North Yorkshire. The section beyond Colne to Skipton North Junction was closed on 02/02/1970 and a campaign has been going pretty much ever since to see it reopened. After the through line was truncated into a branch BR further reduced the infrastructure by single tracking from Nelson to Colne effectively making it a long siding with a station at the end. Sadly the station buildings also got leveled to be replaced with a simple stone bus shelter. Adrian Nicholls.
This Carlisle-Leeds service appears to be carrying plenty of passengers as it approaches Horton-in-Ribblesdale on a rather overcast 28 August 1985. Andrew Walker.
The time is 11.15 a.m. on Friday 30th August 1985, and a Leeds to Carlisle service formed of a four-car DMU passes Dent station. The weather later cleared and these passengers might have had the chance to enjoy the scenery on the return run. The visibility in Dentdale was certainly minimal at this point in the day.
