108 DMU

20th April 1988

Set: BX374

A line up of Buxton allocated Derby built class 108's at Buxton on the 20th April 1988, with the one on the left making a smokey departure from platform 2, the destination blind unusually showing Oxford Road, all services at this time apart - from an early morning sevice to Irlam - terminated at Manchester Piccadilly. On the right is set BX374 (presumably 51568 + 59183 + 51935) and in the middle BX373 (presumably 53932 visible), the set on the left carries no set number. Andrew J Crowther.

108 DMU

January 1991

Set: T066

The morning of an unrecorded date in January 1991 (I can't read the scrawl in my notebook!) saw bright sunshine and a sharp frost at Cosford. I do recall that the wooden platform was quite slippery as Class 108 T066 (51568 + 51943) left the station with a train from Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton, the driver having forgotten to change the destination blind. The attractive wooden buildings have now been replaced with prosaic bus shelters and the platform surface brought up to modern standards. The station is also unmanned although that is arguably better than when an especially grumpy individual was on duty who clearly didn't much like enthusiasts invading his territory. He didn't seem keen on passengers either! Peter Tandy.

108 DMU

1987

Set: BX489

Dating from some time in 1987 is this shot of class 108 BX 489 (51569 + 59207 + 53932) forming the rear half of a six car excursion train at Leamington Spa. I have no idea why I didn't photograph the whole thing and can only assume that the white roof of the trailing set was of more interest at the time. It as unusual for an excursion from the North-West to be in the platform road here and I imagine that some non-stop class 1 special was about to overtake it . Peter Tandy.

108 DMU

6th September 1987

Set: BX489

M51569 (BX489) part of the Buxton allocation is a 1960 built Derby Lightweight Class 108 DMCL, calls at Cheedale Halt with the Summer Sundays only Edale - Buxton ramber service on 6th September 1987, in this view heading towards Buxton rather inappropriately displaying Piccadilly on the destination blind. Cheedale Halt was on the Buxton - Great Rocks freight only line and was opened on the 5th July 1987, it was used by Peak Rail's Rambler's service from Edale-Buxton service, about 3 return trips a day, and closed after the last train had left on the 13th September 1987, so a week after I took this, the freight line is still open. Andrew J Crowther.
