Three Class 108 twin DMUs in Stockport station. Undated, M54264 is closest with set number N602 on the side (Newton Heath, 1988/9) and T202 on the front (Tyseley, 1989), but this is likely from the 1990-2 period when it was allocated to Longsight depot. Stuart Mackay Collection.

16th September 1977
A two-car Class 108 DMU, formed of cars M56265 (Complete with its First Class saloon) & DMBS M50982, were arriving at Croston with a Preston to Ormskirk service on September 16th 1977. The station still retained its LMS concrete platform lamps, and the former Down platform is visible on the left, including the holes and the patch in the stonework of the bridge, where steps once connected Station Road to the platform, a legacy from the days when this was a double track main line from Preston to Liverpool Exchange. A train formed of at least 7 cars, formed of a pair of Class 108 2 car DMUs, M56265 leading, with at least a 3 car Class 101 on the rear, enters Carlisle Station from the north, 6th September 1980. From the looks of the stickers on the first unit, it may have been forming a special train. Paul James.

There was a series of special trains on Saturday 20 October 1990 operating in connection with a Network North-West day sponsored by Motive Power Monthly Power Monthly magazine. It was a good opportunity to photograph some odd workings, including a class 26 + 31 combination, so unusually for me I had a ride around on a discounted ticket. One of the special trains visited Barrow in Furness where this photograph of the "Auto Gear" class 108 (54265 + 53954) was taken passing the impressive North signalbox with a terminating service. Newton Heath Class 108 dmu N612 sits in one of the bay platforms at Lancaster in 1988 waiting to head for Morecambe. Nearest the camera is DTSL M54266 based at Newton heath throughout the 1980s. Its partner is presumbaly 53983. Tony Walmsley.

A (blue square) Derby Lightweight DMU at Grange-over-Sands on 19 August 1967. The vehicles - M56267 and M50984 - were allocated to Accrington at the time. My late father, Stanley Smith, rarely took pictures with trains in them, this was a rare exception. It is from a 1 5/8 x 2 1/4 slide taken on a pre-war Zeiss Bellows camera. Carrying Bristol set number B973, this is presumably 54267 + 53629 which were transferred to Cardiff about this time. They sit in platform 6 at Crewe station, having worked up from Hereford with the first service of the day. I had worked it up from Hereford and would work it back all stations to Shrewsbury, where I would stable it in Abbey Foregate sidings. The photo was taken sometime between 2nd and 7th May 1988 as I worked the turn for the week. Paul James.
