T407 (53092 + 59353 + 59594 + 51858) leaves Northfield on the 11:48 Lichfield TV-Redditch, 15/5/92. Gazza Prescott.
Class 116 51153, set number T407 is seen at Tyseley on 18.10.1992. It had been transferred from Cardiff and is seen as part of a scratch set with an NSE liveried Class 119 centre car (presumably 59416). When transferred up from Cardiff they came as 2 cars and Tyseley added any available centre car. Andy Cole.
Tyseley based four car class 116 DMU unit number T408 (presumably 53114 + 59592 + 59448 + 51859) arriving at Henley in Arden from the Birmingham direction in the summer of 1988. Bob Belcher.
Tyseley based T408 (presumably 53114 + 59592 + 59448 + 51859) approaches Cradley Heath station on 2 July 1988 working the 14.32 Birmingham New Street-Great Malvern. Lewis Bevan.
53071 + 59751 + 53902 (T408) at Longbridge with the 17:58 to Lichfield Trent Valley, 14/11/92. Gazza Prescott.
The often-smokey atmosphere of Birmingham New Street is shown to good effect in this rather gloomy shot, with Tyseley's hybrid 4-car suburban set T409 formed class 116 DMS 53894 (nearest) with out of sight 59367 (class 116 TC), 59600 (class 127 TSL) & 51860 (class 115 DMBS) adding it's contribution on 26/Jul/1991. Many of the Tyseley suburban sets contained class 127 centre trailers which were gangwayed, refurbished and painted blue/grey for the first time in their lives when the St.Pancras - Bedford line was electrified. This saw the class 127 power cars withdrawn, with some being converted for parcels use, and the trailers sent north to the West Midlands for another 10 years' use and becoming the longest-lived class 127 vehicles other than those which were preserved. Robert Chilton.
The 13:15 Scarborough - Leicester worked by Tyseley set T410 (53124 + 59713 + 59602 + 51862) departs Scarborough on June 15, 1988. John Carter.
Class 116/115/127 Set T410 53124 + 59713 + 59602 + 51862 and 53827 + 59674 + 53844 on the 09.55 Birmingham to Yarmouth seen near Ely West Junction on 25th June 1988. Nicholas Youngman.
T410 (53124 + 59713 + 59602 + 51862) arrives at Barnt Green working the 14:23 Redditch - Lichfield City, 18th April 1992. Gazza Prescott.
Class 116 DMS 53873 Leads a 13.00 Birmingham - York additional into Sheffield on 4 May 1988. The other vehicles in set T411 are presumably 59625 + 59597 + 51865. Dave Warby Collection.
2 x 4-car DMUs pass Wigginton, near Tamworth, on 6 August 1988. I think these were running as empty stock. The leading unit is Tyseley-based T411, presumably 53873 + 59625 + 59597 + 51865. Lewis Bevan.
51151 + 59597 + 59625 + 51869 (T411) at Cradley Heath working the 18:16 Kidderminster - New St., 18th April 1992. Gazza Prescott.
T411 (53863 + 59753 + 51142 + 53090) at Sutton Coldfield on the 11:23 Redditch - Lichfield City, 14/11/92. Gazza Prescott.
Droitwich Spa on 28 September 1990 - Tyseley-based set TS412 is approaching working the 12.00 Birmingham New Street-Great Malvern. I recorded the power cars as 53116 (leading) and 51867. Lewis Bevan.
Tyseley's set T412 at Small Heath station, which should have been headed by 53102 but had been reformed with 53116, followed by 59591, 59668 and 51867, on 17/Nov/1990. The formation was a mixture of class 116, 127 and 115 which was normal for most of the four-car sets at Tyseley at the time. Robert Chilton.
Tyseley's four car sets were mostly formed of class 115, 116 and 127 as was the case on 6 May 1991 when I photographed T412 (53055 + 59446 + 59591 + 51867) passing the now demolished Smethwick West signalbox with a Hereford to Birmingham New Street train. The class 47 waiting at the signal was 47813 working a railtour that had just visited Handsworth in the days before the line was re-opened through to Snow Hill. Just behind the camera the Handsworth line crossed the Birmingham New Street to Wolverhampton route. This is now the site of Galton Bridge Station interchange where passengers can change trains between the two lines thus making the old Smethwick West station redundant. It's worth noting that any train leaving the Handsworth branch including this railtour had to run wrong line as far as Rood End Yard between here and Langley Green. Peter Tandy.
T412 (53116 + 59446 + 59591 + 51860) at Redditch, having arrived as the 09:36 ex-New St, and about to form the 10:23 to New St. Note the wiring which was near to completion, spelling the end of most Tyseley DMU’s. 23rd January 1993. Gazza Prescott.
53116 at the rear of set T412, after arrival at New St as the 11.25 from Longbridge on 10/4/93. The set would reverse and then form the 12.06 to Redditch. On this day the other cars in the set were 59591, 59446 and 51860. At this time 53116 was approaching 36 years of service and would go on to achieve another two, all at Tyseley. Leonard Rogers.
53116 at the rear of set T412 (51860/59591/59446/53116) leaves University station, Birmingham, on the 12.53 Redditch - New St on 10/4/93. Leonard Rogers.
Run in conjunction with Worcester Rail Day, 20066/20138 were photographed at Hereford on 2 May 1993 on one of a series of "mini-tours" which used DMU sets T404 + T412 as the hauled stock. They had set off from Birmingham New St, and, after visiting the Open Day at Worcester, tour participants had a choice from a return trip to Gloucester, then two return trips to Hereford, before the return to Birmingham. Lewis Bevan.
