Snaking into Moor Street. A Class 116 DMU threads its way into Birmingham Moor Street station circa late 1980. It appears to be set TS510 and so presumably 50067 leading. Tom Harper.

M50915 leads set TS511 on Hatton Bank, July 7th 1978. The DMBS should be M50819, the vehicles had recently been converted back to passenger use after a decade carrying parcels. Michael Mensing.

A bit of smelly exhaust smoke at Bordesley Junction as two class 116 DMUs climb from the Moor Street lines towards St Andrews Junction and Birmingham New Street with an ECS from Tyseley depot which will later work on the Cross City Line between Blake Street and Redditch. This amount of smoke was commonplace with these DMUs when their engines were cold. 21 February 1987. Peter Tandy.

A bit of paint makes all the difference when applied to a class 116 DMU; the ubiquitous type of unit in the West Midlands in 1987. On 11 July of that year T511 with 53832 + 59649 + 53913 was approaching Bearley Junction when I photographed it working a Leamington Spa to Stratford-upon-Avon train. Peter Tandy.
At Birmingham Moor Street 1987 on 24/9/87, 2 days before the closure of the terminal platforms, a class 116 DMU awaits departure with a Leamington Spa service. It carries set number TS511 in the window, by this date it would probably be known as set T511, presumably with 53832 closest with 59649 + 53913. Stephen Burdett.
The 12.03pm Kidderminster - Lichfield Central service arrives into Rowley Regis station on 2 April 1977. Formed of two Class 116 DMUs, the closest set TS512 (50051 and presumably 59012 + 50113) appears to have been recently outshopped after refurbishment. Michael Mensing.
Set TS512 (M50051 + M59358 + M50113) is an unusual visitor at Thornaby on March 1st, 1981, for tyre turning John Carter.

A couple of Class 116 DMUs on an empty stock working from Tyseley to New Street have just passed Small Heath, January 1985. The rear vehicle is 53113 (set TS512). Stephen Burdett.
Barnt Green is the junction for the Redditch branch, the line for which curves sharply away from the Birmingham to Bristol line. Line occupation, especially in the summer, meant that trains from Redditch often had quite a wait in the platform until Saltley Power Box found them a path, especially if they were a minute or two late arriving. The usual class 116 (TS512, presumably 53063 + 59717 + 53119) is shown here on 16 August 1986 waiting at the signal before heading off to Lichfield City via Birmingham New Street. Peter Tandy.
