A couple of Class 116 DMUs seen near Bournville in 1980 on a cross-city working to Four Oaks. The closest set is still in plain rail blue (and seems to be TS539, presumably 51133 + 59443 + 50119), the rear set is in refurbished livery. Ian Docwra.

A class 116 dmu (set TS540, presumably 50832 + 59029 + 50885) has just left Nuneaton Trent Valley station and approaches the site of Nuneaton Abbey Street station (closed 1968) 28/8/1977 with a Leicester to Birmingham New Street service. The end cottage on the left bears evidence that the occupants were supporters of the notorious career criminal George Davis who was wrongly imprisoned for an offence but ended up committing numerous crimes! In 1979 a series of special trains was arranged over the Coalbrookdale branch to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the building of the Ironbridge. A temporary platform was set up at Coalbrookdale (just past mp161) and here is the 11.45 ex-Wolverhampton at that temporary platform on 15 July 1979; it will return to Wolverhampton as the 16.20 from Coalbrookdale. The train is formed of a Tyseley-based Class 116 dmu, set TS543, with coaches 50895/59350/50842. Lewis Bevan.

Tyseley based DMU set TS543 (53079 + 59439 + 53114) waits to depart Birmingham Moor Street on 11/08/84 with train 2H57 the 13.30 to Leamington Spa while in the background set TS517 is in charge of train 2H67 the 13.40 to Shirley. When this shot was taken the former carriage sidings and Snow Hill line to the right was just waste land covered in vegetation and Moor Street station consisted of just the three terminus platforms.
