A Derby suburban triple DMU in Birmingham New Street circa late 1960s. M51143 seems to be the closest vehicle, displaying set number 337 in the cab window, and lots of staff members standing around chatting. Stuart Mackay Collection.

I never felt entirely comfortable in this location if no other photographers were present as there was a bit of a dodgy pub immediately to the left of the road bridge but on this occasion there wasn't an issue because 2 steam-hauled workings were working away from Birmingham... Here the view out of the rear of class 116 no. 51143 is seen just after passing Lifford West Junction and just before arriving at Bournville on the way from Redditch to Birmingham New Street, 26/Jul/1991. A temporary station was opened here as part of the Iron Bridge bi-centenary celebrations with shuttle trains operating down the Power Station branch from Wolverhampton on Sundays. On 8 July I was the only passenger on the outward journey and using a free staff pass! The Class 116 vehicle is thought to be 51144. Alistair Ness.
