Midland suburban lines route map in a Class 127 centre car seeing further service on the Cross City line, Lichfield Trent Valley 15-3-89. As well as the Moorgate lines which lost their service well before Thameslink opened (work started on electrifying them in 1978 so maybe the service finished then?...), the route to Barking starts from Kentish Town which ceased to run in 1981. From reading around, it appears the Class 127s never worked to Moorgate anyway as they were out of gauge! On Tour With The Class 13 Army.

Class 127 55984, set number 914, is seen inside the factory at Tyseley while undergoing repairs on 01.04.1989. This car was rebuilt from 51639, from a passenger car into a parcels carrying car, complete with roller doors. These sets normally kept to formation, but 55984's partner 55974 was scrapped early on, and on this day it was partnered with 55971. Andy Cole.

It was just over a week before the whole fleet of Class 127 DPUs were withdrawn, but these five were already out of use and used as a source of spare parts. Kevin Dowd.
Class 127 parcels set 920 formed 55967 and 55966, with another set in standard Red Star livery and a tail load forming the 3V20 Manchester Piccadilly - Bristol Temple Meads at Crewe on 6/May/1989 despite what the headcode says. The blue pair appear to be a scratch set containing two former Newspapers 'A' cars (no bodyside branding), fairly common towards the end of 127 parcels operations to keep things going - there is barely a week left before all were withdrawn. They also have mismatching Red Star logos. Both the green vehicles were preserved, the leading car 55967 (formerly 51610) went to Rogart Station and the second vehicle 55966 (formerly the pioneer class 127 51591) went to the Midland Railway - Butterley where another parcels 127 no. 55976 (formerly 51625) had been acquired and painted green to match. Many years later 51610 was sold from Rogart and joined the other two at the Midland Railway - Butterley. Image copyright © John Griffiths, published with Robert Chilton Collection.
