Former Bedford-St Pancras Class 127 DMU cars, converted for parcels use with roller shutter doors and numbered M55984 & M55974 (914), were stabled at Croft Street Sidings adjacent to Fylde Junction and the Preston PSB on March 30th 1986. There had been 11 x 2-car parcel units formed in 1985 (sets 910-920) utilising redundant and modified Class 127 DMBS vehicles. Martyn Hilbert.

Climbing the bank out of Manchester Victoria to Miles Platting on 11/04/1987 are parcel cars 55984 and 55985. Both Derby class 127, 55984 was converted from 51639 and 55985 was previously 51619 they running now as set 914. Note an older set number 4 is also displayed, and one marker light cover is open. Class 127 55984, set number 914, is seen inside the factory at Tyseley while undergoing repairs on 01.04.1989. This car was rebuilt from 51639, from a passenger car into a parcels carrying car, complete with roller doors. These sets normally kept to formation, but 55984's partner 55974 was scrapped early on, and on this day it was partnered with 55971. Andy Cole.

Class 127 parcel vehicles M55984 + M55980, M55983 + M55973 and M55981 sit behind 03170 (the last ever Swindon works overhaul) and a brake van on Longsight TMD, 6-5-89. It was just over a week before the whole fleet of Class 127 DPUs were withdrawn, but these five were already out of use and used as a source of spare parts. Kevin Dowd.

Class 127 55985, set number 915, is seen at Tyseley on 03.05.1986 unusually coupled with 54052, and not it's usual partner 55975. 55985 was converted from 51619. Andy Cole.

Seen at Buxton on 3rd October 1986 in what is now in its second role, but originally built as 4 car units is this 1959 Derby Suburban now a Longsight allocated class 127 dmu set 915, 55985 (51619) + 55984 (51639). From new these units were almost exclusively used on the London St Pancras - Bedford services as 4-car units before being displaced in June 1983, in 1985 22 redundant power cars which had been stored at Carlisle were rebuilt to form 11 two car parcels units, car A was for Express Parcels and car B was for Newspapers, they lasted in service until 1989. At approx 1500hrs on Saturday 13th May 1989 sets 915 (55975 + 55985) and 920 (55966 + 55967) creep slowly up the centre Road at Northampton Station. Their destination unknown, by 1100hrs the following Day all 4 cars were tucked up inside the DMU Shed at Manchester's Longsight Depot. AndrewHA.

An assortment of parcels DMUs converted from former "Bed-Pan" hydraulic class 127 units stand forlornly withdrawn in Crewe Basford Hall yard on 21/Jul/1990, with 55975 (formerly 51615) nearest. Three vehicles from these parcels conversions were subsequently preserved. Behind 55975 can just be seen departmental coach ADB977191, formerly class 100 56106, which was later moved for storage at Crewe Brook Sidings and ultimately disposed of at Crewe Works in 2000.
