With pedestrians waiting at the level crossing gates on High Street, Derby built Class 114 Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) E50004 was departing from Lincoln Central with a service to Sheffield on April 21st 1981. E50004 was in refurbished white with blue stripe livery, whilst its trailer car was still in blue/grey. The third vehicle is a Cravens. Martyn Hilbert.

100 DMU

Partnered with a Class 108 vehicle, Gloucester Class 100 Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) M51117 was bringing up the rear of a lengthy rake of empty DMU cars stood in platform 5 at Crewe on June 9th 1979. The DMUs went ECS to the carriage shed at Crewe South located alongside the WCML. Martyn Hilbert.

120 DMU

A Swindon built Class 120 Cross-Country three-car DMU with Driving Motor Brake Composite (DMBC) M50703 leading, was stood in the South facing bay at Crewe with a service to Lincoln via Derby on June 9th 1979. The livery on the side of the car appears to have been suffering with the effects of wash plant chemicals. The well-worn but comfortable Class 120's dominated these workings during this period. A tidy looking 08744 had come to the rescue of a failed ex Class 127 Parcels DMU (Set 919 - M55979 & M55969) awaiting the road at the North end of Preston station on July 4th 1987. 08744 had been a regular station pilot at Preston for many years. Martyn Hilbert.

A two-car BRCW Class 104 DMU formed of cars M53468 & M53494 was passing the District Civil Engineers sidings located in the former goods yard at Kirkham & Wesham, whilst working a Blackpool South to Colne service on September 26th 1987. The well-worn unit was withdrawn from service at Chester in September 1989 and was scrapped by Berry's of Leicester in 1990. The Brake Van on the left of this scene was B950136, an LMS type that had been built by BR in 1950. Martyn Hilbert.

111 DMU

In the days before the Kirkham By-Pass crossed the line, a Class 111/110 six-car DMU formation was passing over Kirkham North Junction with a Saturday Blackpool North to Leeds service on July 7th 1984. The lead set is a Metro-Cammell Class 111 formed of cars 78706 and 78956, whilst behind is a BRCW Calder Valley Class 110 that had been strengthened to four-cars with the insertion of an additional centre trailer coach. In refurbished white with blue stripe livery, a Derby built Class 116 three-car DMU with Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) M50851 leading (TS508 presumably also contains 59376 + 50904), was passing over Barnt Green Junction as it diverged from the former Midland Railway Birmingham to Bristol main line with a Four Oaks to Redditch service on September 5th 1981. The short Redditch branch is 4.73 Miles in length from its junction at Barnt Green. Martyn Hilbert.

In the days when Selby was on the East Coast Main Line and had a pair of through tracks, Swindon Trans Pennine Class 124 Driving Motor Open Composite (DMC) E51952 was stood at Selby as the lead car of a Hull to Manchester Piccadilly service on September 12th 1981. Martyn Hilbert.
