358. SUBURBAN UNITS - DOOR ARRANGEMENTS

Question still under consideration by Messrs.Gould and Read.

359. CONVEYANCE OF PARCELS TRAFFIC.

Noted - that the question of design has been taken up with the B.T.C. and they are in communication with Messrs.Craven, who have indicated they can adapt their design to meet our requirements, and discussions are proceeding.  Mr.Stanley said it was not considered practicable to build the vehicles at Derby and it was agreed that this order for Derby Works be cancelled and three standard passenger vehicles be built in substitution.  Mr.Varley to agree allocation of these units with Messrs.Stanley, Gould and Read.

The Chairman said the B.T.C. would be pressed for early delivery of the vehicles from Messrs.Craven having regard to the fact that a net saving of £11,600 p.a. can be made in the West Cumberland area by the use of the diesel parcel vans.

360. SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE ARRANGEMENTS.

(a) Minutes of meetings of Sub-Committee held on August 11th, 24th and September 13th noted, with the following observations :-

Reddish.  Mr.Butland said that following Mr.Cook's amendments to the scheme, he was proceeding to compile estimates.  It was agreed that Mr.Varley would discuss the matter with Mr.Emerson and if necessary Messrs.Varley, Butland and Emerson would visit Doncaster to finalise the proposals.

Derby, Nottingham, Leicester.  Noted - that Derby Etches Park would be suitable for day to day maintenance and Derby Motive Power Shed for motive power maintenance.  Mr.Larkin said it was not practicable to use Derby Locomotive Works Diesel Shop. Mr.Adkinson said it was not practicable to deal with diesel units at the new Leicester shed, which is a roundhouse.  Mr.Butland asked for as early information as possible about pit requirements at Etches Park, as design work is held up.

(b) Inspection Pits.

Noted - Minutes of meeting held on August 10th re side pits and fume extractors.
