With regard to schemes already being prepared for submission and other schemes thought likely to be developed, Mr.Gould said a shot estimate of the number of vehicles required was 1,000, including spares (600 motor vehicles and 400 trailers), these figures including the number of vehicles which the Chief Commercial Manager estimates to be required for possible additional traffic.
Revised schedule of allocation attached as Appendix "C". Mr.Stanley reported that the order for 91 vehicles to be built by the Birmingham Carriage & Wagon Company has been cancelled and these are now to be built at Derby during 1958 in light alloy. Of these, five 2-car sets are for the Birmingham Part 2 scheme, the remainder being for the Eastern Region.
Noted that B.T.C. have been requested to place the order for the 3 vans for the West Cumberland area to be fitted with 150 H.P. engines.
Mr. Finlayson reported that certain technical points have been raised with B.U.T. and he will press forward with the experiment.
Noted that advice has been received from B.T.C. that 200 H.P. engines and 238 H.P. Rolls Royce engines can be accomodated under 57 ft. vehicles.
Noted that B.T.C. Public Relations Adviser is following up with Chief Carriage & Wagon and Operating & Motive Power Officers. It has been suggested to B.T.C. that commercial advertising be excluded from first class accomodation, and in regard to second class, it would be helpful to have the views of the Publicity Committee. Mr. Salmon stated that matter has not yet been considered by Publicity Committee.
