The Chairman said the B.T.C. are pressing strongly for information as to the number of units which will be required for the revised Manchester Part 1 scheme and asked for this information to be supplied as a matter of urgency, regard to be paid to the number of surplus vehicles likely to be required on L.M.Region for other schemes.
It was agreed that, as the first stage of the Manchester Part 1 scheme, the following diesel services be brought into operation from Tuesday, October 2nd, 1956 -
Manchester - Buxton
Manchester - Wilmslow (via Styal)
Manchester - Macclesfield
It was agreed that a special inaugural trip be run and C.C.M. and P.R.& P.O. will arrange to draw up a list a of people to be invited, following similar lines as the inaugural trip for the Birmingham Part 1 scheme. Lists of proposals for invitations to be sent to the General Manager by the departmental officers concerned.
Delivery of unit expected in November 1956. (see also minute 459.2(a) re Watford - St.Albans).
Messrs.Gould and Read reported that this scheme is being prepared as a matter of urgency, but Mr.Butland said that the Allerton site is not now considered large enough for the maintenance and servicing depot required to cover diesel and electric stock and a new site is being sought. The Chairman asked for the report to be submitted quickly, if necessary without details of servicing and maintenance, these to follow later.
2. Liverpool Central - Gateacre and Warrington (C)
The Chairman said he was particularly anxious for this scheme to be submitted quickly in view of its potential advantages. Mr.Gould said the scheme is being remodelled but good progress has been made. With regard to servicing and maintenance - see Minutes 458.1.
