643.  INTER CITY SERVICES

Liverpool, Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and Hull Scheme  (L.N.W. route)

Noted that the Regional Accountant would shortly be provided with the information necessary for costing the London Midland Region existing services for this scheme and when completed the costing would be passed to the Regional Accountant, Kings Cross, for inclusion in the North Eastern Region's submission.

644.  SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE ARRANGEMENTS

(2)  Future Priority Schemes

Noted position regarding five maintenance depots concerned :-

Reddish - Final submission expected to be ready within one week.  Mr.Finlayson will discuss with Mr.Lambert the apportionment of cost between multiple units and de luxe Pullman trains.

Chester - Draft plan complete.  Departmental meeting being held on January 15th to finalise fuelling arrangements.  Proposals now nearing competion.

Accrington - Noted that the scheme which had been prepared for submission to the Area Board had been withdrawn at the request of the Director of Traffic Services.  Mr.Gould stated that as a result of a review of services in N.E.Lancs. it was now clear that a diesel maintenance depot would not be required at Accrington, it being found possible to cover the necessary requirements at Newton Heath and Lostock Hall.

The Chairman requested that arrangements be made to avoid a similar occurance as the withdrawal of the Accrington scheme.

Lostock Hall - Being re-investigated as a result of the decision to withdraw the Accrington scheme.

Nottingham - Mr.Lambert stated that investigation was proceeding into economics of building a new maintenance depot as an alternative to converting the old buildings at Low Level and he would send a report to the Chairman when costing complete.  Mr.Gould said that the present site of the Low Level station was considered to be ideal for a maintenance depot.
