644.  SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE ARRANGEMENTS  (Contd.)

(3)  Future pattern in regard to closure of motive power depots

Noted that information requested by Commission was being compiled and would be deaalt with in correspondence.  The Chairman requested that in preparation of future schemes for maintenance and servicing facilities, the Chief Mechanical & Electrical engineer be associated with the Director of Traffic Services and submissions be jointly prepared and signed by the two departments.

645.  SCHEMES AUTHORISED BUT NOT YET IN OPERATION

(1)  Manchester Part 2 (S.E.Lancs.) Scheme

First part of scheme introduced on June 9th, 1958.  Remainder of scheme would be brought into operation on June 15th, 1959.

(2)  Liverpool, Lime Street - St.Helens - Wigan Scheme

Scheme partially brought into operation on January 5th, 1959.  Anticipated remainder of scheme would be brought into operation in September, 1959.

(3)  St.Pancras Suburban Scheme

(a) Rolling Stock - Delivery between April and December, 1959.  Part of scheme would be introduced in September, 1959 and complete scheme in January, 1960.

(b) Improvements to running facilities between Harpenden and Bedford - Proceeding satisfactorily and would be completed by September, 1959.

(c) Cricklewood Maintenance Depot - Mr.Baker reported that preparation of submission proceeding satisfactorily.

(d) Lengthening of platforms - Mr.Lambert reported that the question of the possible lengthening of some platforms was still under investigation.

(e) Closing of stations - Noted case for the closing of Ampthill Station waiting consideration by T.U.C.C. and the case for the closing of Napsbury in course of preparation.

(4)  Greater Birmingham Scheme

Full diesel scheme covering greater Birmingham area introduced on November 17th, 1958.  Noted that scheme now approved by Area Board and Commission.  Scheme for maintenance facilities at Ryecroft also approved by Area Board and Commission.
