Class 100 Gloucester RC&W 2-car DMUs

Allocations

One issue about the allocations for the class is the date of the move from St Margarets to Leith Central depot, as I've never seen a printed date.

All the initial Scottish allocations were to St Margarets (64A) of which Leith Central was a sub-shed — this was just a 'paper' allocation as all maintenance and stabling was done at Leith Central (I have never seen any photographs or notes of DMUs actually being at 64A).

The last mention of St Margarets in DMU allocations is the delivery of the final GRC&W set in March 1958. There were no Edinburgh area DMU changes until the delivery of Wickham railbus Sc79665 in September 1958 which went to Leith Central, the first time it is mentioned in allocations. So I'm guessing the St Margarets to Leith Central transfer was sometime between March 1958 and September 1958.

The next allocation change for the ScR GRC&W vehicles was not until August 1959 when four sets moved to Hamilton. The transfer (the image shows how it appeared in the November 1959 ScR Staff Magazine with 51140 a typo for 51114) was from Leith Central so the vehicles were definately 'transferred' before this date.

I've noted the St Margarets to Leith Central move (which also affected the Swindon Inter-City sets) in the allocation database as circa Summer 1958 (change date 31/7/58). If anyone has any further info on the transfer it would be appreciated.
