After the Parcels Sector finished using the Class 114s the remaining vehicles moved to Derby Etches Park. From there 55929 and 54904 were selected for conversion to an Automatic Train Protection Test Unit, becoming ADB 977775 and ADB 977776. The story of the vehicles can be found on the Train Testing website.
Afterwards they became route learning and inspection vehicles for EWS at Margam and Bescot. They are pictured at Warrington Arpley by Paul Moxon on the 7th August 1986, a location they were found at frequently during their route learning days.
53036 and 54027 were noted as becoming an engine testing unit.
