A scene that epitomises the early years of DMU travel in Yorkshire. A Rolls-Royce powered Metropolitan-Cammell 3-car unit with E50278 trailing stands in platform 1B at Huddersfield forming a service to Wakefield Kirkgate on a misty winter's day in the 'pre-whisker' era of the late-1950s, possibly shortly after delivery in January 1958 (to Hammerton Street). The other two vehicles are presumably 59108 + 50288. Gordon Edgar Collection.
A Class 111 set at Sheffield Midland, with 50278 closest. 29/11/80. Chris Lings.
Rolls-Royce powered Class 111 set E53278 + E53283 at Shipley on a Ilkley - Bradford F.Sq. working, 17/5/84. Hamish Stevenson.
Met-Camm single-engine conversion E78712 in Snailwell on August 12, 1990. Nicholas Youngman.
With the Rowntree-Macintosh chocolate factory alongside, a Metro-Cammell Class 101 three-car DMU formed of cars E50283, E59571 & E50278 was stood at Halifax with the daily Leeds to Blackpool North service on August 9th 1980. During this period, this out-and-back Monday-Saturday working was the only regular timetabled passenger train to use the Copy Pit route between Hall Royd Junction at Todmorden and Gannow Junction at Burnley.
