A Met-Camm formation in the white / blue stripe livery in York station on August 1977. Closest is a 111 four-car. The slide had three numbers noted: E50288 which seems to be closest, 59094 and 50140 which are a 101 TBSL and DMCL, possibly the far set. Stuart Mackay Collection.

Class 111 78959 is seen having arrived at Leeds on 01.09.1987. This was converted from 53288. Andy Cole.

A Metro-Cammell 2-car set with E78959 leading passes major rebuilding work at Gilberdyke on the evening of 7th April 1988. This was a 2-car set which originally had four engines, now reduced to two. The quadruple track from Gilberdyke Junction to Melton Lane had been reduced to two running lines and the stations along the line were being shaped to fit. At both here and Broomfleet new platforms were being built over the old relief lines. Syd Young.
78709/78959 departs Leeds City station on 22/7/88 forming the slightly-delayed 13.37 to Sheffield. In the background, 51450/51510 departs in parallel with it on the 13.40 to Scunthorpe. Leonard Rogers.

A scene that epitomises the early years of DMU travel in Yorkshire. A Rolls-Royce powered Metropolitan-Cammell 3-car unit with E50278 trailing stands in platform 1B at Huddersfield forming a service to Wakefield Kirkgate on a misty winter's day in the 'pre-whisker' era of the late-1950s, possibly shortly after delivery in January 1958 (to Hammerton Street). The other two vehicles are presumably 59108 + 50288. Gordon Edgar Collection.
Class 111 cars E78709 E78959 (left) are awaiting departure with a local service to York, probably running via Selby. Its car numbers in the 78XXX series show that each has had one of its two Rolls-Royce engines removed, becoming DHS-DHBS. Meanwhile, illustrating the new order, an unidentified Class 141 railbus (right) awaiting departure to Leeds in pre-electrification days - this unit would have still been new at this date, and carries original white and green livery. The first production railbus class, their first few years were beset with mechanical problems, though their reliability improved upon refurbishment in the late 1980s. However, they were all withdrawn by 1997 after a relatively short career with BR, though most were exported for further use... three units have been preserved. Graeme Phillips Collection.
Two withdrawn DTSLs - Class 101 54383 and Class 108 54193 - share a siding with a Class 111 (78959 + 78709) at Hull Botanic Gardens depot on 12 July 1987. Keith Miller.
