With the Rowntree-Macintosh chocolate factory alongside, a Metro-Cammell Class 101 three-car DMU formed of cars E50283, E59571 & E50278 was stood at Halifax with the daily Leeds to Blackpool North service on August 9th 1980. During this period, this out-and-back Monday-Saturday working was the only regular timetabled passenger train to use the Copy Pit route between Hall Royd Junction at Todmorden and Gannow Junction at Burnley. A Swindon class 120 DMU attracts the attention of the fitters at Edinburgh Waverley on 28th June 1987. There is a Class 08 attached to the far end, so it may have been shunted in after a failure. 53699 is closest, presumably with 59571 + 53658. Jonathan Hazan.
Seen crossing over from the south to north approach tracks before entering Waverley one afternoon in August 1987 is this hybrid set using Swindon Cross Country power cars 53699 and 53658 sandwiching Metro Cammell centre car 59571, originally part of a Rolls Royce powered headcode set. The two Swindon Cross-Country power cars started their life 20 years earlier at Cardiff as W50658 and W50699, while the Met Camm centre car spent most of its life in the North East as E59571.
