A BRC&W triple DMU with DMCL M50507 closest in Tunstall station on 28 September 1963. This was on the Potteries Loop Line on which services ended in March 1964. Michael Mensing.
Numerous platform trolleys and some Class 104 DMUs (including set BX482, M53507 closest) in Buxton station on 20 March 1984. An image from the Jim Freebury Railway Slide Collection. David Page.

Scuttling down the 1 in 60 decent between Disley and Hazel Grove with a Buxton-Manchester Piccadilly service, is Buxton based BRC&W class 104 dmu (M53507, M59149, unknown DMBS) seen as it heads towards the short Middlewood Tunnel which takes the railway underneath the Macclesfield Canal. 9th March 1985. Andrew J Crowther.
On 7th July 1985, coming out of the New Mills turn back tunnel, as we called it as it was used to turn back the 2 car dmus back to Manchester, is a Buxton "White Roofed" allocated BRC&W dmu BX482 (M53507, M59195, M53429), officially called Hayfield Tunnel it was the start of the 2.5 mile branch to Hayfield which closed to all traffic on 03/01/70, the tunnel is 197 yards long and was only half bricked up at the other end. Today the tunnel is trackless but the tunnel mouth is still there, at the other end of the tunnel is the start of the Sett Valley trail which is on the old track bed to Hayfield. Andrew J Crowther.
Stratford-upon-Avon had several visitations by Buxton based DMUs in the mid-1980s and on the cold and damp 26 October 1985 there was a 1L04 from Manchester Piccadilly listed in the weekly STN. I spent a few minutes chatting to Mick, the signalman at Stratford East, only crossing to the other side when he pulled off the outer home signal. The train consisted of a six coach class 104 (plain blue) + 108 (blue & grey) combo with vehicles 53507, 59195, 53429 + 51943, 59388 & 52058 and it was pleasing that that the class 104 was leading as these were less often seen in the West Midlands than class 108. Peter Tandy.
A clear view of Stratford-upon-Avon station from the Alcester Road bridge on 26 October 1985. On the left BX482 (53507 + 59195 + 53429) + BX495 (51943 + 59388 + 52058) are stood in the Cold Store Siding while on the right a 6 coach class 116 formation (each set containing Met-Camm centre cars) is about to depart from platform 2 on its journey to Birmingham Moor Street. The 104/108 would later shunt into P2 before making the long journey back to Manchester Piccadilly after the passengers had spent a chilly day in Stratford in the days before all-day opening! Peter Tandy.
A class 104 DMU (set BX482, presumably 53507 + 59195 + 53429)at Mancester Piccadilly on 18th April 1986. Jonathan Hazan.
On the bright morning of May 1st 1986, A Class 104 Three-Car DMU (Buxton set BX482) with 53507 leading, was stood on the up fast at Leyland with a Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria Service. This was a familiar time-honoured scene, the class 104's dominating these services during the 1970's & early 1980's, until ousted by Class 120 Cross-Country units for a short time, prior to the arrival of new Class 150/2 Sprinter Units in 1987/88. Note the unusual application of yellow around the destination blind. Martyn Hilbert.
A Class 104 DMU (BX482, 53507 closest) arrives at Manchester Victoria on a very wet 6th April 1987. Jonathan Hazan.
Birmingham R.C.& W.Co class 104 units 53507-53429 forming the 17:40 Bolton service at Manchester Victoria on 2 June 1987. Gordon Edgar.
53507 heads a mixed livery Class 104 set with a 101 set behind at Manchester Victoria on the 1st April 1988. Dennis Taylor.
A seemingly well-filled Class 104 two-car DMU formed of DMSL M53507 & DMBS M53534, was departing from Burscough Bridge with a Southport to Manchester Victoria service on October 29th 1988. M53534 was one of the very few Class 104 vehicles to carry blue/grey livery. Martyn Hilbert.
CH615 M53507 + M53534, stand in the old goods depot sidings at Warrington Central, at 16:35 on 2-9-89. Robert Simpson.
Class 104 M53507 CH615 at Vic Berry's with Upperton Road bridge behind, 10.02.90. Nicholas Youngman.
This shows 50455 facing 50507 at NH on 3/2/80. Despite it looking as if the two vehicles are cannibalised and about to be scrapped, both vehicles returned to traffic for several more years. Jerry Glover.
A two-car Class 104 DMU formed of DMBS M50534 & DMS (ex-composite downgraded) M50507 was coming off the Coast Line at Kirkham North Junction whilst forming the 12.01 Blackpool South to Kirkham & Wesham on August 1st 1981. Martyn Hilbert.
Border City. BRCW Class 104 M53429 DMB at Carlisle. Having arrived empty from the north it is waiting for southbound passengers. The rear blind on BX482 shows 'Manchester' and an old notebook suggests this is actually a Footex for Carlisle Utd v Man City. Noted as BRCW Triple M53429 + M59195 + M53507 coupled to a Class 108 Derby Twin LW. Saturday 08 September 1984. alicia hartman.
The warmth of the signalbox at Stratford-upon-Avon was welcome on Friday 26 October 1985 and this picture was taken from the window as 6 coach 108 (52058 + 59388 + 51943) + 104 DMU (53429 + 59195 + 53507) shunted from platform 1 to the Cold Store Siding alongside platform 3 where it spent the rest of the day before returning after dark to Manchester Piccadilly. Peter Tandy.
Blue & Grey livered Class 104 DMBS M53534 with blue M53507 brings up the rear of a formation also containing a Class 108/104 hybrid set on a Manchester Victoria to Blackpool North service at Preston on February 6th 1988. M53534 was the only Class 104 working locally that carried this livery. Martyn Hilbert.
Derby built Class 108 Driving Motor Brake Second M53934 was the filling in a BRCW Class 104 sandwich in platform 1 at Preston station on February 6th 1988. M53934 was coupled to Class 104 Driving Motor Second Lavatory (DMSL) M53501 awaiting departure to Blackpool South, whilst to the rear Class 104 DMSL M53507 was the leading car with a service to Blackpool North. Martyn Hilbert.
Class 104 twin set in contrasting liveries M53534+M53507, the latter in all blue livery with the 13.26 Chesterfield-Sheffield at Tapton Junction, Chesterfield on the 21st July 1988. Kevin Law.
The blue and grey liveried Newton Heath-allocated (N677) Class 104 53534, paired with plain blue 53507, was a unique combination in the North West at this time. It had been transferred from Bletchley depot, and was moved again to Chester depot in May 1989 until its withdrawal came in June 1990. It was photographed leaving Manchester Victoria on 6th September 1988, for once a dry day for my visit to this station. Sprinter units by this time were ousting the older first generation DMUs, and 150 201 was at the same platform forming a service to Blackburn. Gordon Edgar.
Class 104 set CH615 (DMBS 53534, presumably with DMS 53507) at Chester on June 29, 1989. John Carter.
